Non-Social Media Podcast Marketing
Finding new avenues to promote your podcast can be challenging. Then add in the fact that you’re not a marketing wiz and it can easily escalate from challenging to overwhelming. We all want to create good content but it’s also important that we share our content in the areas that make it easy for our audience to find us. So let’s explore new avenues outside of Instagram, Facebook or YouTube to market your craft.
Blk Pod Collective Directory
Many within the black community are always looking for ways to support our own, but with so many podcast out there it’s hard to know where to start. The Blk Pod Collective Directory serves as a centralized way for Black Podcasters to be easily found.
The directory will have monthly campaigns to promote traffic, serve as an information hub for sponsors and allow black podcasters around the world to readily find each other.
Think of it as collective advertising, because as we promote the directory, we also promote you.
When I think of Pinterest I typically think of home décor and cooking recipes. However, they’re people who use Pinterest to gain insights and find new items to explore. This is a great way to gain listeners on specific topics/episodes. So if you have a guest that’s discussing ways to cope with family around the holidays. Using keyword search tools, those that search for holiday related items can come across your episode.
I recently found out that Pinterest even allows you to post audio directly to the app, who knew. But this adds an extra layer, because you can pull the most enticing part of your episode and turn it into an audiogram for Pinterest.
LinkedIn is great if your podcast is business related, as many people are on there for that very reason. For instance if you’re discussing accounting, then join a few accounting groups where your able to share your content. This can also funnel clients into your business if your podcast is associated with a business platform.
Meetup
Many may have forgotten about Meetup, but it’s still a great social networking tool that allows you to find your target audience right where they are. Most Meetup groups are highly niche, which makes it easier to market to them. For instance if your podcast is about True Crime ,then you can easily search for meetups with that keyword and you will find at least 50.
By joining the meetup group you can either post directly in the group or reach out to the organizer and find out if they have a newsletter or email blast that you can include your podcast.
Eventbrite
Use Eventbrite as a tool to see what events are coming to your area so you can see if your podcast can align with their audience. From there do some research to understand their audience and what you can bring to the event and then pitch your show/yourself to serve as the event podcast. This provides you with access to a new audience while also giving you new content for your show.
Colleges/UniversitIES
School newspapers and various social clubs provide unfettered access to new listners. If your podcast is geared to Gen Z this is the perfect place to start.
For instance if you have a Podcast on politics you could partner with the Young Democrats club at your local University to podcast from their events, interview their board etc. In turn you gain access to their audience and they promote your podcast as they promote their events
Overall
Its important to think outside the box because your target audience may not be on social media. It can be a lot of work; however, you don’t have to do everything. Pick 3 things you know you can manage and be consistent.
