Ways to Connect with Your Audience: Outside of Your Podcast

Author: Dayana Preval

Sometimes connecting with people on a deep level on social media can be hard to do authentically. In between the likes, the number of followers, and engagement it’s easy to lose that connection. I believe that’s why it’s important to connect with your audience outside of your social media community. Podcasting opens a door to really bond with the content on a personal level. As podcasters and listeners, we see ourselves through the lens of each episode. Wouldn’t it be amazing to expand and build that community offline? Well, here are some tips that may help you reach engagement offline.

  1. Utilize newsletters

I know, I know. Email marketing is a whole beast within itself, but it’s worth it. Think about it. Outside of social media, people utilize their emails to stay in the loop with their interests, connect, and so much more! It’s also a bit more personalized. This is a great way to build a stronger relationship with your audience and if social media went away tomorrow, this is how you continue to engage.

  2. Get up from behind the mic.

Yes, you. You will not meet people if you don’t physically make an effort. I know social anxiety can be real, but remember getting uncomfortable isn’t a bad thing. Download Eventbrite, find some podcasting events in your area and explore. There are so many creatives out there who want to hear a podcast that relates to them. Don’t forget you’re filling a need.

  3. Offer your audience more ways to connect & support your brand

Offer products so that your audience can promote you. Whenever I buy a shirt and wear it out and someone compliments it. I am reminded that I am representing a brand that also represents me. Make people feel this way about your podcast. You’re serving a purpose, so learn what your audience likes and tend to that.

  4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions

Transitioning and connecting with your audience on and offline is a lot and requires a lot of work, but it’s not impossible. Add your audience to the conversation. This will also help with relationship building and not only connecting with your content but you as a person. Remember that people are essentially investing in you and your story, so don't be afraid to be transparent. Relationship building will flow easier offline.

Even though we are so wrapped in our phones, nothing replaces fellowship; so take the leap and spend time getting to know your audience.
