Does Your Podcast Need a Website?

If you've ever considered creating a website for your podcast, I'll tell you now that it's a good idea. While it's not 100% necessary, having a website can do a lot for you as far as promoting and finding your podcast through search engines.

Let me reassure you that maintaining a website for your show doesn't have to be difficult. The purpose of a site is to house all your episodes in one location. Most podcasters tend to post their shows on a number of different streaming platforms. While that's fine to do, it'll be easier for your listeners to flock to one hub so you can track analytics from there.

Here's what you need to know about website creation and its advantages.

Find the right builder

First of all, I know the idea of making a website from scratch can be pretty daunting. If you're looking for an easy site builder to use, I suggest Squarespace

It has plenty of different templates so you can choose the look you want. Each one is simple to build and if you get stuck, they have a wealth of information and tutorials right on their website to help you. You can also use their app to upload posts and track your analytics.

What goes on the site?

It would be beneficial for you to create short blog posts about each episode. The information can be taken from your show notes but make sure to include specific keywords for search engine optimization (SEO).

If you don't know what SEO is, it's the way in which search engines rank certain websites. If you want your show's website to show up on the first page of Google, consider adding high ranking keywords to your blog posts. If you're interested in researching keywords, try using Google's keyword planner.

Along with your podcast episodes here are some other key elements to have on your site:

  • About The Host(s): Let your audience get t know you

  • What to Expect: Why you started the show and what your audience can expect from it

  • Events: Showcase when you’re hosting an event

Don't forget to promote!

The easiest part of having a website is promoting it through various channels. As I said previously, if your goal is to have listeners find your episodes in one place, make sure you're directing them to your site.

Make sure you add your URL to your social media bios or to your Linktree to make it easier to find. Let your listeners know at the end of each episode where they can find you and ask them to leave comments on your posts because comments and reviews can also boost your SEO rankings.

With these few tips, you can create a hub for your podcast that will essentially do the promoting for you. Just make sure that you're keeping track of well-ranking keywords and you'll watch your site shoot up the ranks and new listeners will follow.
