Does Your Podcast Need a Social Media Page?

Everyone and everything has a social media page these days and your podcast should be no different. If you’re looking for a great way to engage your audience when you’re away from the mic, social media is a perfect way. It doesn’t matter which platform you choose but what does matter is your content.

If you’re considering creating a page or if you already have one, here are some things to consider.

Make sure your podcast and social media content align

Make sure your page is either about your podcast or subjects related to your podcast. Remember, this isn't just an extra page to post random stuff, it needs to draw an audience from social media that you may not have captured yet.

For example, my show's Instagram, @strongfriendcheckin has clips from past episodes and also includes mental health and wellness tips. That way, your new audience will know exactly what you're about when they listen in.

Use your social media to expand on your show topics

Have you ever wanted to expand on a topic but didn't have enough time on your show? Take it to IGTV! It gives your listeners a chance to chime in in real time all while adding content to your page.

Another great way to bring your followers into your conversation is to ask their opinion about something that was said on the show. If you're successful enough, you might be able to read comments live on air (which could lead to a new segment).

Try to stay consistent

This is the hardest part and I'm definitely talking to myself with this point. Always keep in mind that listeners can find you in a number of different ways. That could be by word of mouth, stumbling upon your podcast, and especially social media. Because of that, you'll want to make sure you're as consistent with your page as you are with your show. That doesn't have to mean that you're posting hourly, or even daily but there should be something on there that's recent and relevant at all times.

If you have trouble staying consistent, try coming up with a posting schedule. I like to use Planoly to schedule out my posts by day and time to make life easier for me. Research the best scheduling tools for your social media platform and keep that content coming!

Remember, you want your social media page to be an extension of your podcast. It should be your representative when you're away from the mic. Make it good, keep it consistent, and the followers/listeners will come.
