Staying True to Your Voice
Yay!! You are now in the thick of things with your podcast. You have a name, you know your recording dates and now it's time to get this content together. What are you going to say now that you have this platform?
Your content is what makes or breaks your podcast. You have to make sure the content is created for your target audience, but also be interested in what you're saying, so everything flows organically. Here are some things that you should consider:
Know your target audience
Your target audience drives your content. You have to make sure you are discussing topics that your audience wants to hear. My audience for my podcast is pretty specific: 25-50-year-old women who have careers and have gone through changes in life. Keep in mind who you are talking to and what their needs are.
Talk about things you're interested in
Make sure you are interested in the content you are presenting to the world. Wouldn't it be horrible to talk about spiders and spider related information if you have arachnophobia? Exactly, make sure you get joy from your content. Your listeners will convey whatever feelings you emote through your content.
Recently, I received a message from one of the listeners from my podcast. She stated that she loved the content because she could feel the joy and connection that I have with my show. That's a listener that I know will come back not just for my content but because of how I present I am within the content.
Tell stories
No one wants to hear just a list of information rambled off to them, that's like sitting in a US History class with a teacher with a monotone voice...whaaa whhaa whaaa. Make sure you are telling a story that captures your listener’s attention. And this brings me to my last point…..
Stay on topic
Yes, you have to tell a story, emote feelings and keep your audience in mind, but to make sure to tie everything back to your topic. After each point or interview question bring it back to the main topic.
Invest the time and effort into your content to help ensure that your podcast will be the best that it can possibly be. Don't get hung up on gimmicks and catchphrases. Bring the audience content that both of you can enjoy listening to.
