Keeping Your Audience Engaged Between Episodes

If you’re like me, you release a podcast once a week. After your podcast’s release date, how are you keeping your audience engaged? Have you considered how you should keep your listeners anticipating your next episode? If you haven’t here are a few great ideas to boost your social media feeds.

Use clips of your show to boost listenership

If you haven’t heard of Headliner, let me introduce you to an app that will give you the perfect content for your social media page! Headliner allows you to post a clip of your show to your social media page. Be it audio or video, you can grab a few seconds of your show and post it for all to hear.

Sometimes, just posting about your new episode isn’t enough. Listeners (especially new ones) might want to know exactly what they’re about to listen to before pressing play. This gives them the opportunity to get a piece of the episode and decide to listen or share.

Actually engage with your audience

We talk often about engaging your listeners and the easiest way to do that is to actually talk to them. As I’ve said before, everyone loves to feel listened to so apply the same to your social media audience. Ask their opinion on a topic, ask for show feedback, even ask for episode suggestions. It’s a great way to make your audience feel like they’re really part of the show.

By the way, right now is the perfect time to connect with your audience. A lot of us are seeking connection during the COVID-19 crisis and it’s helpful to check-in and see how your listeners are feeling.

Create live content between shows

Speaking of the COVID-19 crisis, social distancing has forced creatives to find new ways to create content from home. Even when the quarantine period lifts, you can still use this strategy to give your social media followers something new!

Has there ever been a subject you wanted to make into an episode but you decided it wouldn’t work as well as you thought? Turn it into an Instagram live! You can have viewers chime in with their questions and comments and have a mini-sode. And just in case you didn’t know, you can save your IG live to your computer with this plugin. Upload the audio or video to your website or YouTube channel to drive traffic to other platforms that are affiliated with your podcast.

Staying creative with the ways you engage is important. Sometimes, the typical social media strategy can get stale so you’ll need a refresh every once in a while. Find the tactics that draw current and new listeners to your platforms and continue to develop new ones. Try all new ideas and put your creativity to good use!
