Clubhouse for Podcasters
As podcasters we’re often looking for ways to actively engage with our audience, and for many of us social media is are main medium. We post content, create videos and at times it feels like it’s falling on deaf ears. Then comes Clubhouse, a new audio based social media platform that allows us to do the exact thing we’ve been trying to accomplish for years; connect.
Though there’s been discussion about Clubhouse pulling podcast listeners away I’d like to offer a different perspective. Instead of viewing Clubhouse as a competitor to your podcast, view it as a companion. Imagine this, you release an episode and at the end you invite your listeners to join you on Clubhouse to discuss that very topic!
Well you don’t have to imagine, that’s exactly what Blk Pod Collective and many other podcasters have been doing and for us it’s led to an additional 200 listeners per episode, over 1,000 new social media followers and 100+ email list subscribers. This type of growth in under a month from one platform is like something I’ve never seen.
Where many of us are actively trying to create marketing funnels to drive our target audience to our podcast, Clubhouse has done it for us. Now I’m sure some of you have been on there tuning in, and are unsure where to start; so here are a few items to get you started.
Provide Value
This is the case with most social platforms; but especially so for Clubhouse. The audience ranges from seeking entertainment to seeking information on a range of topics. Take the time to determine which angle you plan on approaching each conversation and partner with other creatives to host rooms together.
Follow other creatives
The rooms that show in your feed/hallway is based on who you follow. So curate who you follow to ensure you see the types of discussions you care about. If looking to use clubhouse as a marketing funnel for your podcast it’s important that you follow people within your niche.
Connect with Potential Guest
Clubhouse takes the word social to new heights. You get to meet people from an array of fields that you may otherwise have never heard of. They’re so many people doing amazing work that are simply not getting the shine they deserve and Clubhouse connects you directly with them, while also providing you with a glimpse of their on mic presence. Use it to your advantage to ask them on the spot or shoot them a DM after.
Join The Conversation
Don’t just join and tune in, but instead raise your hand and join in on the conversation. Speaking within rooms allows for the audience to see you and look at your bio and what you do. Now of course only go on stage when you have something to add to the conversation.
Be Strategic
Seeing that Clubhouse doesn’t allow links, use your Instagram and Twitter accounts to guide your new audience. Many people pin their most recent episode to their Twitter or create a post the same day they create a room to ensure it’s the 1st thing new followers see.
There’s no one size fits all but overall be creative in your strategy and above else have fun. The connections that Clubhouse is able to offer is truly next level.
